#17813 new Bugs

Songs disappear from music library after changing their ID3 tag

Reported by: mvglasow Owned by: DaveBlake
Priority: 4 - Normal
Component: Database / Library for Music Version: 17.6 "Krypton" final
Severity: Normal Keywords:
Cc: mvglasow Blocked By:
Blocking: Platform: Linux

Description

To reproduce:

  • Prepare an SMB share with a few ID-tagged audio tracks on it.
  • Add it to the library.
  • Update the audio library.
  • If Kore is used, update there as well.
  • For a few songs, change the ID3 tags (one data field change per song) as described below. (I use EasyTag on Linux for that.)
    • Change the artist or song name (i.e. a data field which is used to arrange the collection).
    • Change a data field which is not used for indexing (e.g. Original Artist, Composer etc.)
  • Update the audio library again. (Also on Kore, if used.)
  • Browse the audio library.

Behavior observed:

  • Edited songs are no longer in the library (neither under their old nor under their new name).

Behavior expected:

  • Edited songs should still appear in the list (with their new data if any of the listed data fields were changed).

Configuration:

  • Media Center: OSMC 2018.3.1 on Raspberry Pi, Kodi 17.6
  • Desktop: Easy Tag 2.4.2 on Ununtu Linux 16.04
  • File server: Samba 2:4.5.12+dfsg-2+deb9u1 on Raspbian Stretch

Additional information:

  • The last metadata change and rescan might have happened prior to the last Kodi update.
  • When I first noticed the issue, I tracked it down but didn’t report it here. It’s been a while since then—I’ve described the steps leading to this issue to the best of my knowledge, but I am no longer sure what changes I had made to this particular track. If you fail to reproduce this, get back to me and I will investigate further.
  • To rectify this behavior, do the following:
    • Rename the files which are not getting picked up.
    • Clean the audio library.
    • Update the audio library. After that, the missing tracks will reappear.
    • Optionally, rename the files back, clean and update again.
  • Note that rename–clean–rename-clean-update did not work for the one track with which I had this issue. Apparently, Kodi needs to pick up the track with its new filename once.

Only just noticed this, anyone wanting my attention try posting first in Music Support on the forum (where I monitor most days). You also get the benefit of other users seeing it too, and they may have helpful contributions to make.

Not able to reproduce anything experienced here. I suspect that Easy Tag is changing the music file without setting the file modified date or changing the file size. It is these that Kodi uses to identify that a music file has changed, hence on library update it simply does not rescan these music files despite the edits. But that does not explain the songs vanishing.

I would need to see the music file, and probably the music db as well, to be able to comment further. If you can reproduce this behaviour mvglasow then please post these for an example.
