#17712 new Bugs

PVR (Live TV) deinterlacing issue

Reported by: axlt2002 Owned by: Paxxi
Priority: 4 - Normal
Component: Windows specific feature Version: 18.0 "Leia" Alpha1
Severity: Normal Keywords: PVR, Live TV, deinterlacing
Cc: afedchin Blocked By:
Blocking: Platform: Windows

If you start to watch a HD 1080i live TV channel, after few seconds the video is no more correctly deinterlaced. Going to the video options and changing the deinterlaced method from DXVA to Off and again to DXVA, makes the video again perfectly deinterlaced (until the channel is changed). The issue reported repeats at every change of channel. Kodi 18.0 alpha1 x64 running over a Windows 10 platform and using Argus TV as PVR add-on. The debug log can be found at the following link: https://pastebin.com/yfhEmvXX

Thanks in advance for your support.

@afedchin videoSettings are loaded asyc and may change after first call to OutputPicture. Can this cause an issue on Windows? I don't think that this should have any influence.

yes, It has no any influence. DXVA renderer operates only with flags passed to RenderUpdate method when decides is material interlaced or not. see https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/blob/master/xbmc/cores/VideoPlayer/VideoRenderers/HwDecRender/DXVAHD.cpp#L451

so de-interlacing may be switched off only if flags doesn't contain RENDER_FLAG_(TOP|BOT) and RENDER_FLAG_FIELD(0|1)

as I can see these values depend on de-interlace method when OutputPicture occurs. if hw decoding is used then VS_INTERLACEMETHOD_NONE and VS_INTERLACEMETHOD_DXVA_AUTO are set to processInfo.

Can processInfo somehow miss these values?

I can't reproduce the issue on local files (records from sat). renderer receives valid flags all time.

Replying to afedchin:

@afedchin I don't think so

I believe you, because I can't reproduce locally.

Indeed, the issue does not happen with recorded video; it is just related to the live TV. What is strangr is that it starts to deinterlace properly and after few seconds it stops...as no more flags are sent

I'll try reproduce with live TV when I have spare time.

Hello All.

It seems the the bug is still present in the latest nightly (see this post https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=326616&pid=2728878#pid2728878 on the Kodi forum).

Hey guys.

Also facing this issue on one of my windows 10 x64 1709 clients. The second windows client, with near identical hardware did NOT facing this issue. I have noticed the same as @axlt2002, the first seconds are deinterlaced an then a short (a few 100 milliseconds) black picture and the the material is interlaced.

But i'll think i have solved it with an workaround. Dont know 100% sure what i have done but ill think it was: I going to video settings (during playback) switch back the deinterlace to deactivated. Set this for all media (last option). Stopped playback, reentered the menu and switched on deinterlacing again. Set again this settings for all media.

Now my livetv is deinterlaced all the time.

Maybe there is somthing messed up with the settings?

Hi...it seems that the release of Kodi 18.0 is near and this bug still persists...is there any news on it?

Personally I consider this as a bug that would really be a pity to have in the Kodi 18 first release...and force some users to stick with the 17.6 version...

Just a quick feedback would be really appreciated. Thanks.
